Today, I loaded five of my rarest and most extraordinary black chickens into the back of my truck – the magnificent Ayam Cemani. They are a breed like no other. Every part of them is touched by black – their feathers shimmer like polished obsidian in the sunlight, their skin is deep onyx, even their bones are dark as midnight. People call them the “Lamborghini of poultry,” but to me, they are friends. Companions. Little souls wrapped in velvet feathers.
These five had been part of my life for quite some time. I had cared for them through sunny days and rainy nights, fed them from my hands, and marveled at their beauty each time I saw them stroll through the yard. But I knew they were ready for new homes – places where they could be cherished by others who would see them not just as a rare breed, but as living, breathing wonders.
The auction hall was alive with sound and movement when I arrived. Dozens of people moved between rows upon rows of cages, each containing chickens of every color and size. The air was full of chatter, soft clucks, occasional squawks, and the rustle of feathers. It smelled of straw, fresh sawdust, and that earthy, unmistakable scent of a barnyard.
As I walked along the aisles, I felt a tug on my heart. There were so many birds here. Some stood curious and alert, their bright eyes watching the world. Others huddled quietly, still and uncertain. Some had the proud posture of show birds, while others looked as if life had been harder for them.
I could have simply walked past, focused only on my own birds and my own business. But something inside me whispered, Give them what you have.
I stopped where I was, closed my eyes for just a moment, and let my heart open wide. I imagined light and warmth pouring out of me – a steady stream of unconditional love. I let it spread across the entire building, filling every cage, wrapping around every single bird. I didn’t try to control it. I just let the love flow, without expectation, without asking for anything in return.
And then… it happened.
It was almost immediate. A wave came rushing back toward me – not in words, not in any human language, but in pure feeling. It was a soft, yet powerful current of energy, so beautiful and so complete, that it made my eyes sting with tears.
This was no coincidence. This was communication. Hundreds of tiny hearts had heard me, and they were answering back.
What I felt in that moment was beyond description – but I will try. It was like being bathed in pure Source energy, the kind that bypasses your mind and goes straight into your soul. It was joy without condition, peace without explanation, gratitude without the need for words. It was, in every sense, a gift from God.
I realized that what had happened wasn’t just me sending something out. It was an exchange. A perfect circle of giving and receiving, a living reminder that all beings – whether feathered, furred, scaled, or human – are connected in ways we can’t always see with our eyes.
That day, I came to the auction to help my five Ayam Cemani find new homes. But I left with something far greater – a knowing in my heart that love, when given freely, always finds its way back. It may not come back from the same direction, or in the same form, but it will return, often more beautiful than when it left you.
And sometimes, if you are blessed enough, it comes back on the wings of a chicken.
Try It Yourself
If you’ve never tried it, I encourage you to open your heart to an animal, any animal, and simply send love. You don’t need special training, you don’t have to say a single word. Just imagine a warm, golden light radiating from your chest, flowing toward them. It can be a pet curled up beside you, a bird on a fence post, or even an animal you meet in passing.
Animals feel energy more purely than we do. They don’t filter it through skepticism or doubt. They simply receive, and if they wish, they give back. Sometimes the return comes in a gentle look, a relaxed sigh, a little nuzzle. Other times it arrives as a wave of peace that seems to rise up from nowhere, except you know exactly where it came from.
This simple act of love can shift your day, and maybe even theirs. It costs nothing, but it can mean everything. And in that exchange, you will remember the truth: we are all connected, and love is the language every soul understands.
